Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

How can EFT Help You?

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) works by stimulating specific points on the body, similar to acupressure, while simultaneously focusing on emotional or mental distress. This dual attention is believed to help the brain process and release emotional blockages, potentially reducing stress and anxiety.

Stimulating Meridians: EFT involves tapping on specific points on the body, often referred to as meridian points, which are associated with energy flow in traditional Chinese medicine.

Dual Attention: While tapping, individuals focus on the specific issue they are dealing with, whether it's a phobia, past trauma, or a current stressful situation. This dual focus is thought to help the brain recalibrate its response to the issue.

Brain Activity: Studies have shown that EFT can calm the amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for the fight-or-flight response, and reduce activity in the pre-frontal cortex, which is associated with cognitive processing and memory.

Restoring Balance: By stimulating meridian points and focusing on the issue, EFT aims to restore balance to the body's energy system, potentially reducing the intensity of negative emotions and stress.

Changing Emotional Responses: EFT can help individuals reframe their understanding of past events and change their emotional response to them, even without needing to relive the trauma.

Evidence-Based Practice: EFT has been recognised as an "evidence-based practice" for various conditions, including anxiety, phobias, and PTSD.
